During the weeks of 28 June-2 July and 12-16 July 2010, “Biblionet – the World in My Library” programme continued in Ialomita county with 2 training sessions on” IT and public access computing management”. The host for the 19 librarian-trainees was the Training Center within the County Library “Stefan Banulescu” in Slobozia. The localities represented were: Fierbinti Targ, Fetesti, Mihail Kogalniceanu, Gheorghe Lazar, Saveni, Andrasesti, Adancata, Giurgeni, Cazanesti, Reviga, Jilavele, Vladeni, Facaeni, Movilita. Four librarians of the County Library have also been trained.
Trainers Teodora Borghoff (EOS Foundation) and co-trainers Mariana Fasie and Carmen Neagu (County Library staff) magically used their skills to give trainees an unforgettable and useful experience. And the mission was accomplished! Here is some feedback: „I am happy to have participated, because otherwise I would not have known what to do with the computers and it would have been very difficult”. „I was actually the most interesting training I have ever been part of”. „I loved the very modern, interactive training methods, which I did not expect”. „I already had some IT skills, but this course structured them very well and now it is all much clearer”.
In a few weeks’ time, the trained librarians will receive the computers, eagerly awaited by children who „have long time before started making reservation lists”. This new service of free internet computer accesss will add to the list of traditional activities that libraries are involved in.
As an extra proof that Romanian libraries are already developing interesting projects, here are the latest achievements of the Commune Library „Stefan Tanase” in Adancata, Ialomita county. With local support of World Vision organization, librarian Mariana Stefan enjoys appreciation and awards for providing glass painting lessons (which she herself delivers), pupper theatre and theatre played by 5th grade children in English. Another noticeable initiative, which is a local tradition, is the campaign which brings 20 volunteer children (during summer holiday) to the houses of local citizens (especially the elderly) for fun reading sessions.
We wish to all librarians lots of success in reaching their shared objective: bring a laaaarge number of people to the library, using the new technology!
